One of our favorite movie mothers is Mildred Pierce played by Joan Crawford in Michael Curtiz’ 1945 classic of the same name. We recognize Mrs. Pierce doesn’t represent what most would consider a great mother given that she raises an absolutely hateful spoiled brat, but we still can’t help but admire her. Not only does Mildred do everything for her child, which is admirable in some ways, she also becomes a professional success despite seemingly insurmountable odds. We also never forget that Mildred Pierce is a woman with desires.
Given her troubles Mildred Pierce is drawn to bourbon and whiskey in the movie, but we found a terrific recipe at Bar None Drinks that celebrates the woman, which is a great way to commemorate this month by celebrating all aspects of womanhood.
Here’s the recipe for the elegant Mildred’s Desire from Bar None Drinks:
Stir & strain in a coupe glass and enjoy in low light wearing shoulder pads and with your midriff showing.
